Notes (missed the first few minutes)
- Require Canadian steel for federal projects (national interest?)
- tarrif non-free trade nations on steel
- quotas on free trade countries
- own best customer
- new markets in Asia
- I noticed he used his notes to compliment the workforce and shit, but maintained eye contact with the camera during the actual policy points
- fucking crime question 🙄 but yo, “gun came from Canada”, goddamn
- tariff on steel poured and melted in China
- tariffs on 50% of steel imports at 50% for non-Free trade countries, quota at 100% of 2024 levels
- Canada replacing US steel exports to trade partners would be a fucking baller move, doubt we could pull it off though, at least not soon
- consulting with the indigenous before any projects are announced is a good strategy
- “the rest of it was just filler” 😂
- new port? (he was laughing so I didn’t catch it). Wants to improve the infrastructure though
- emphasis on nation-building projects
- fucking Israel again 🙄 I hate the ME right now
- Carney’s meeting with Mexico’s PM soon
Concerns
- how will this affect trade with China, other countries?
- will this harm current free trade agreements?
- I hope he gave them a heads up ahead of time, this is the sort of soft relations that are hard to quantify/follow
- hopefully this could be leveraged to increase/improve free trade within other countries (TPP)
- BC/Eby will be happy on softwood lumber comments
